Nvidia's board authorised a further $150 billion of share repurchases, the largest increase any company has announced and above Apple's $110 billion in 2024. Total buyback capacity is now $235 billion, which Nvidia plans to use through fiscal 2028. The company has forecast revenue growth of about 70% for fiscal 2028.
Why it matters for listed companies
The $235 billion is cash earned from AI chip sales to cloud companies being returned to shareholders rather than spent on capacity or acquisitions. It comes while Nvidia's shares, up just over 20% this year, trail AMD (more than doubled) and Intel (more than tripled) as competition in AI chips grows, and with the stock at about 16.5 times forward earnings, its lowest multiple since 2015. Nvidia ended its latest quarter with $22.44 billion in cash and equivalents, so the buybacks are to be funded from future cash flow.

The finance angle is the contracted revenue: about $36 billion over the initial terms of the leases, paid by the AI cloud companies and hyperscalers that rent the capacity. That backlog is many times current revenue…
The finance angle is where AI work gets paid for. A model that runs on the laptop shifts spending from cloud usage to the device: Nvidia earns from the chip, Microsoft from the hardware and Windows, and the buyer pays…
The finance angle is the price of AI computing for the companies that buy it. Anthropic puts the overall cost of running a workload about 75% below Haiku 4.5, and says the Sonnet change takes roughly 20% off a typical…
