US LNG exports average 17.4 Bcf/d in the first half of 2026, up 23%, with exports to Asia more than doubling

US Energy Utilities Industrials

What happened

The Energy Information Administration said US liquefied natural gas exports averaged 17.4 billion cubic feet a day in the first six months of 2026, 23% more than in the same period of 2025, because new export capacity came into service. Exports to Asia rose by 2.3 Bcf/d, or 108%. The Dutch TTF benchmark averaged $14.74 per million British thermal units in the half, up from $13.10, and the Japan-Korea Marker reached a four-year high of $15.56. The agency estimates 17.3 Bcf/d for the second half and 18.7 Bcf/d in the first half of 2027.

Why it matters for listed companies

LNG export volume is the revenue base for US liquefaction operators and for the pipeline companies that carry feed gas to the Gulf Coast terminals, and it is a growing source of demand for US gas producers. Higher overseas prices widen the gap between what exporters pay for US gas and what cargoes fetch abroad. The same pull on supply bears on domestic gas prices, a cost input for gas-fired power generators, fertiliser and chemical makers. Terminals under construction add a further 4.0 Bcf/d of nominal capacity.
