SpaceX raises $75 billion in the largest IPO on record and closes 19% higher in its Nasdaq debut

US Industrials Communication Services

What happened

SpaceX priced its IPO at $135 a share on June 11, raising $75 billion at a market value of about $1.8 trillion. The stock opened at $150 on Nasdaq on June 12, touched $174.99 during the session and closed at $160.95, up 19.2% from the offer price, on volume of more than 503 million shares. The company combines rocket launches, satellite internet and AI models.

Why it matters for listed companies

The deal raised more than all US IPOs of the previous two calendar years combined, according to Renaissance Capital, and created one of the largest listed US companies overnight. Index funds and benchmarked managers have to make room for a stock of that size as it enters indexes, which can mean trimming other mega-cap holdings. It also gives a valuation benchmark for listed space and satellite companies such as Rocket Lab and AST SpaceMobile.
