Wienerberger, the Vienna-listed maker of bricks, roof tiles and pipes, issued a trading update before the market opened. It now sees third-quarter revenue of about €1.2-1.3 billion and operating EBITDA of about €170-180 million, and has reduced its full-year operating EBITDA guidance to €640-650 million. It blamed weak residential new-build activity in the UK, the United States and Canada, lower plant utilisation, and energy, raw-material and logistics costs that accelerated from late August. The interim chief executive announced faster cost cuts and a strategic review, with details on November 12.
Why it matters for listed companies
Wienerberger is one of the earliest reporters among European building-materials groups, so its update is read as a marker for brick, roofing and pipe demand ahead of results from peers. Two things in it travel: new housing in the UK and North America is still weak while renovation and infrastructure are steadier, and the energy-price jump is now reaching kiln-fired products faster than price increases can cover. Newsquawk indicated the shares 3.5% lower before the open. Companies with a larger share of renovation and infrastructure work are less exposed to the same pressure than those tied to new-build volumes.
