Chemical makers led Tuesday's sector table. Balaji Amines was locked at its 20% upper circuit at Rs 2,349.30; Gujarat Fluorochemicals rose 3.22%, Deepak Nitrite about 3%, Aarti Industries 2.93% and Atul 2.39%. The trigger was a broker note from Elara Securities saying second-quarter price trends were mostly constructive for refrigerants, PTFE, select agrochemicals, 2,4-D and specialty intermediates. Ammonia and methanol prices fell 29% and 13% from the previous quarter, but sulphur, acids and aromatics stayed well above last year's levels.
Why it matters for listed companies
For chemical companies, the note describes a recovery driven by selling prices rather than by cheaper inputs. Amines producers gain from lower ammonia and methanol, their main feedstocks, while fluorochemical makers are exposed to refrigerant and PTFE prices. Makers dependent on sulphur, acids and aromatics still face higher costs than a year ago, so the effect across the sector is uneven. The numbers are a broker's reading of price data; the companies' own September-quarter results are due over the coming weeks.
