Larsen & Toubro's Energy CarbonLite Solutions business received a limited notice to proceed from DVC CIL Power for two 800 MW ultra-supercritical units at Chandrapura in Jharkhand. L&T classes the job as a 'major' order, its band for Rs 5,000-10,000 crore, without giving the exact value. The scope runs from design to commissioning of boilers, steam turbines, generators and electrostatic precipitators. The shares traded about 1.4% lower at Rs 3,715.70 at 12:20 pm.
Why it matters for listed companies
New coal-fired capacity is being ordered again by public utilities, and the equipment and construction work goes to a short list of Indian suppliers of boilers and turbines, L&T and BHEL among them. For L&T the order adds to the energy segment's backlog; a limited notice to proceed covers early work, so revenue follows over several years once the full notice is issued. The direct effect on one year's results is small against a market value of about Rs 5.12 lakh crore.
