RBI holds repo at 5.25% for a third meeting, raising its FY27 inflation forecast to 5.1% on a $95 crude assumption

What happened

The Monetary Policy Committee voted unanimously to keep the repo rate at 5.25% with a neutral stance. It cut its FY27 GDP growth forecast to 6.6% from 6.9% and raised CPI inflation to 5.1% from 4.6%, with the October-December quarter seen at 5.9%; the projections assume crude averaging $95 a barrel, up from $85 in April. The RBI also announced measures to attract foreign inflows to help bridge the balance-of-payments gap, and put forex reserves at $682 billion, about 11 months of imports.

Why it matters for listed companies

A higher inflation path with rates unchanged removes the room for further easing and keeps bond yields firm, which affects borrowing costs for banks, NBFCs and corporates and the outlook for rate-sensitive realty and auto demand. The higher crude assumption frames how much fuel-price pass-through and subsidy pressure oil marketing and fertiliser companies face. The inflow measures matter for banks that raise foreign-currency deposits and for the rupee.
