Reliance Industries executive director Anant Ambani said on October 2 that the company plans to put Rs 1 lakh crore into compressed biogas plants in Andhra Pradesh, with a focus on the Rayalaseema region. He put the job creation at over 3 lakh and the revenue to the state at nearly Rs 60,000 crore over the coming decades. The announcement came at the foundation-stone ceremony for a horticulture hub and the Indian School of Agriculture in Madanapalle. The report gives no plant count, capacity or year-by-year spending schedule.
Why it matters for listed companies
Compressed biogas is made from crop residue, dung and food waste and is sold as a substitute for natural gas in vehicles and industry, so the announcement touches three groups of listed companies: Reliance itself, whose new-energy spending it adds to; city gas distributors, which are the buyers and blenders of biogas; and makers of digesters, compressors, gas-purification equipment and cylinders that supply such plants. The direct effect for now is small. This is a stated intention spread over an undefined period, without capacity or commissioning dates, and the size of any equipment orders or gas offtake cannot be read from it.
