Bharti Airtel is increasing its postpaid tariffs by a flat Rs 50 across all slabs from October 8, a rise of 3% to 11% depending on the plan. The individual plan moves to Rs 499 a month from Rs 449; family plans go to Rs 749 for two SIMs, Rs 1,049 for three, Rs 1,249-1,449 for four and Rs 1,799 for five. Each SIM gets one free international roaming trip a year with 5 GB of data, 60 minutes of calls and 25 outgoing SMS. Airtel shares were up about 1% near Rs 1,830 in the last hour of trade.
Why it matters for listed companies
Tariffs are the main lever on a telecom operator's average revenue per user, and postpaid customers are the highest-paying part of the base, so a Rs 50 rise there adds revenue with little extra network cost. Postpaid is a small share of Indian mobile connections, though, so the effect on Airtel's total revenue is modest next to a prepaid increase. The move matters for Vodafone Idea and Reliance Jio (inside Reliance Industries, with Jio Platforms' IPO reported for later this month) because operators in India have tended to move prices in the same direction.

After a week with one small new issue, October's fundraising depends almost entirely on Jio Platforms, whose reported size is about twenty times that of Paras Healthcare. In Tonbo Imaging's case all proceeds go to…

At that size it would be the largest IPO India has seen, and the first from the Reliance group since 2008. Reliance holds 66.4% of Jio Platforms and Meta and Google together 17.7%; because the issue is entirely new…
