Four SME issues that closed on September 29 began trading on Monday. Himalayan Solar opened on NSE SME at Rs 85 against an issue price of Rs 103, a 17.48% discount, after its Rs 68.03 crore issue was subscribed only 1.19 times. Dudani Retail opened on BSE SME at Rs 25 against Rs 29, 13.79% lower. Bench Mark Infotech Services opened at its Rs 110 issue price on NSE SME and later traded at Rs 115.50. Sai Urja Indo Ventures opened on BSE SME at Rs 133.80 against Rs 113, an 18.41% premium.
Why it matters for listed companies
The openings did not track demand in the way SME debuts often have: Bench Mark Infotech was subscribed 72.35 times and still opened flat, while Sai Urja, subscribed 3.88 times, opened higher. The two issues with the thinnest books, Himalayan Solar (1.19 times) and Dudani Retail (1.42 times), opened below issue price, so allottees there started with a loss. For the SME platforms of NSE and BSE and the merchant bankers behind these issues, it is a second day of uneven openings after Monday's mixed mainboard debuts. These are small issues; the effect on the wider market is negligible.
