Trent, the Tata group retailer behind Westside and Zudio, said standalone revenue for July-September was Rs 5,788 crore, 23% more than the Rs 4,724 crore of a year earlier, and Rs 11,454 crore for the half year, up 21%. It added 17 Zudio and 10 Westside stores in the quarter, taking the network to 1,342, and Zudio crossed 1,000 stores. The shares rose as much as 12.75% to Rs 2,909 on NSE. The same morning Honasa Consumer, which owns Mamaearth, guided to sales growth in the early thirties per cent and rose more than 8%.
Why it matters for listed companies
These are the first hard readings on discretionary spending for the quarter, and they came in above forecasts even though part of the festive season moved into October-December: Citi had pencilled in 18% growth for Trent. The read-across is to apparel and value retailers and to beauty brands. It is not uniform. Avenue Supermarts reported 18.4% revenue growth to Rs 19,206 crore but its shares are down 22% in six months, with investors pointing to slow store additions and quick-commerce competition. Brokerages quoted by Upstox also flag Trent's revenue per square foot and margins as the open questions; profit figures come with the full results.
