Dilip Buildcon said the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board has awarded it an LPG pipeline from Paradip in Odisha to Raipur in Chhattisgarh, a project it values at Rs 1,800 crore. Construction is to take three years, followed by 25 years of operation. The company will develop and run the pipeline through a special purpose vehicle it owns fully, and will not buy or trade LPG itself. The shares rose as much as 3.5% to Rs 415.20 during the session.
Why it matters for listed companies
Dilip Buildcon is known mainly as a road contractor; a pipeline it owns and operates for 25 years brings a different kind of income, a transport tariff over time instead of a one-off construction payment, and needs the company to fund the asset. The project is about a quarter of its market value of Rs 6,619 crore. For the gas sector, a regulator-awarded LPG line from a port to central India moves cylinders' worth of fuel off road and rail, which affects the logistics costs of the state-owned fuel retailers. Pipe makers and laying contractors are the suppliers that earn from the construction phase.
